Virginia Small Grains Field Day

Miller Milling Company joined wheat breeders and agronomic professors from Virginia Tech University, along with seed dealers and farmers interested in exploring new varieties of grains for a Virginia Small Grains Field Day on May 20, 2010, in Warsaw, VA.

Representing Miller Milling's Winchester facility were Mike Soder and Jill Karalis. Representing New World Pasta were Bob Bradley and Mike Skuodas. They visited with farmers about ongoing work to develop a durum wheat variety suited to the state's climate, which is cooler and damper than the Northern Plains where the majority of US durum is grown.  "When farmers can talk directly to us about the end products we make and see the pasta varieties that are made by New World Pasta here in Virginia, it definitely increases their interest," commented Jill Karalis, director of quality assurance.
